Ride 2: Narita Township to Shibuya (涩谷), Tokyo

Left Narita after the temple visit and a full breakfast. Unfortunately, internet didn't work at the ryokan so I couldn't download a map and I'm still without directions (decided not to use data...) Luckily I'm heading to Tokyo, so can't be that hard. The ryokan also had a pamphlet for a Hotel Fukudaya in Shibuya so at least I had that booked before I took off.

Bought a map at a convenience store in Chiba but unfortunately it was all in Japanese. After crossing Rainbow Bridge into Tokyo proper, a young couple (who spoke good English) pointed out to me where in Shibuya my hotel should be located. I still couldn't find it (even though I was very close; streets are unnamed in Tokyo...) and asked one of the road wardens. He was kind enough to walk me half way there, and even helped me hoist my bike up a flight of steps to the road above. A fun adventure, and a very long day. But will have maps in the future!

So here's the route. ~90km total. 9AM departure from Narita, many stops in between and arrival just before 7PM. Great weather. Bright, fresh and no winds.

Not the most scenic route until closer to Tokyo. Many roads had cycle lanes or shared pedestrian / cycle lanes. I followed signs first to Chiba, than to Tokyo. Route 464 or 296 would have been shorter but harder without map / gps.

Some kids doing hip pop dancing at a mall I passed by:

A typical scene cycling along Tokyo Bay past Chiba.

Cycle path bypassing the overhead bridge.

Museum of Martitime Science before the Rainbow Bridge. I tried to go 2 days later but found out the whole place was closed for renovation. I thought it was just closed because I was late that day!

View of Tokyo skyline and Rainbow Bridge.

Three dudes dancing in the park...

Yub - Tokyo also has a statue of liberty:

Cycling not allowed on Rainbow Bridge, and to make sure of it, they ingeniously clamp your wheel.

Another view of the Rainbow Bridge and the Tokyo skyline at dusk.

Arrival at Hotel Fukudaya.

Took a quick look around Shibuya in the evening after some ramen. Fugu must be one of the most ugly fish I've ever seen. This is a tank at a fugu specialist restaurant.

Japanese infrastructure workers - diligent, precise and omnipresent!
