Narita-san Shinsho-ji (成田山新胜寺)

Got up early in the morning to look at the temple. Arranged in several stages progressively up the mountain park (成田山公园), the main hall was re-constructed in the 1960s while the temple itself was founded more than 1000 years ago. One thing I have been really impressed by in this trip is how well the Japanese reconstruct historical buildings and grounds.

The main gate:

 Inside the main gate:

Main hall - this time in the light. This is the first level.

Statue of a dragon:

I think this commemorates those who made a donation to the temple.

Intricate woodworking and colors.

Behind the main hall is a long wall of families and businesses which keep a name here.

These are the halls on the second level. The smaller halls to the left and right are for animals.

This is the main hall on the third level. I went inside - all carpeted and several floors (shoes off of course). Special rooms for reading and writing. Very peaceful.

Garden immediately to the front of the main hall on the third level.

Gate inside the main entrance on my way out.
